NEST 2016, Application Form, Exam Pattern, Dates

nestNational Entrance Screening Test (NEST 2016) is an all India test for screening the aspiring candidates for admission to the various research programmes in the field of science. The examination is conducted by the joint venture of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Science, University of Mumbai. Both are autonomous institution under government of India. The examination is conducted for the 5-year integrated M.Sc degree in Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics offered by the both above said institutions.

The given dates are referring the year 2015. Candidates are suggested to not follow these dates as these are for the reference only.

Eligibility Norms for NEST 2016

The candidates appearing the NEST 2016 will have to satisfy the following criteria as per the notification given by the university:

The candidates must be passed or appeared the 12th examination from any government recognized board of India with science stream and with any combination of the subjects as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. The candidates should be passed the qualifying examination with minimum 60% marks whereas 55% marks will be ok for SC/ST and person with disability. The candidates should not bear on or before the 15th July 2016. However 5 year relaxation would be given to the SC/ST and PWD candidates. The candidates qualified the 12th examination on or before the year 2013 will not be eligible for apply.

NEST 2016 Exam Pattern

The NEST 2016 examination will be comprised in one paper containing the five sections as section one from general aptitude which will be compulsory for all while sections 2 through section 5 will be asked from subjects as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Each section will carry 60 marks from all MCQ type questions. The language of exam will be English only. Section one will not provisioned with any negative marking while all other sections will be punished with negative marking for incorrect answer. The candidates may attempt all sections and all questions and merit list will be calculated by the any of three highest scored sections.

NEST Application Form

The application form for NEST 2016 would be carried out through the online as well as offline mode. Through the online mode the application form will be available on the official site of the exam and through the offline mode the application form will be requested from the institution office and would be gotten against the application fee in form of DD make by any bank in favour of NISER-NEST payable at Bhubaneswar. The online application form would be submitted online while the offline application form would be sent to the below given address in time.

  • Male (general and OBC candidates) – Rs. 700/-
  • Male (SC/ST candidates) – Rs. 350/-
  • Female (All categories) – Rs. 350/-
  • Person with Physical Disability) – Rs. 350/-

50 Rupees will be charged extra for offline application.

NEST Admit Card

The admit card will be available through the both mode as online ad offline. The application those will apply for the exam via online mode would get their admit card via online only while the candidates those will apply for the exam via offline mode would carry their admit card by post as the board will dispatch their admit card through the said channel.

NEST 2016 Result Date

During the third week of June 2016 the board will announce the result for NEST 2016 through the official site of the exam portal. The result will also be available on the official site of the both institutions.
