Sikkim Teacher’s Eligibility Test (STET) is a test conducted twice in a year by the Sikkim Human Resource Development Department, Sikkim to recruit qualified and eligible candidates for teaching in the Government or Private schools of Sikkim.

The Sikkim TET is an entrance examination which consists of two papers: Paper – I for Primary Teachers (Class I – Class V) and Paper – II (Class VI – VIII).

Sikkim Teacher’s Salary

The salary of the teachers depends upon their eligibility, experience and qualification and also differs from school to school. The salary in the Government school may increase according to the pay commission.

According to a report, the average salary of the teachers in Sikkim is around Rs 16000/- which is very low as compared to the national average salary.

Sikkim Teacher’s Vacancy

The STET is a qualifying exam and hence no vacancies are released in the notification released by the board. After qualifying the exam, the candidates become eligible to go for interviews in the Government or Private School.

The scorecard and certificate given to the candidates after qualifying the exam is a proof that the candidates have good knowledge about the mentioned subjects in the certificate.

The certificate is given separately for all the levels which also help the schools in getting to know that the candidates can teach both Primary and Upper Primary Levels.

STET 2020 Application Form

All the interested aspirants who want to get enrolled in STET 2020 should fill the application form given in the official website of the board. The form should be filled within the prescribed period. The application forms for STET 2020 are expected to be available in December 2020.

  • The candidates will also have to upload the scanned copy of their photograph and signature.
  • All the personal details like Name, Father’s name, Date of Birth, Qualifications, Phone number; Address, etc also have to be filled by them.
  • The photograph and signature should be uploaded in the format as asked and no other format will be accepted.
  • While filing the application form, candidates shall make sure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria required to apply for the particular category.
  • Candidates should also read other instructions properly so that no problem occurs in the further process.

Any request for the correction should be made before the final date mentioned for correction otherwise the request will not be entertained by the authority. The candidates should keep the hard copy of the application form with themselves for further use.

Application Fee is Rs 400/- for all the categories. The payment mode should be offline (by e-challan) only which is to be deposited in the favor of Joint Director/Examination, HRDD in any nearest branch of IDBI in the state.

If candidates want to apply for both the papers, separate application form shall be filled for both.

STET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for STET is given below:

Educational Qualification required for Paper – I (Primary Teachers)

  • Have passed senior secondary or equivalent examination with minimum 50% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed/4-year B.El.Ed/2-year Diploma in Education or Special Education

Educational Qualification required for Paper – II (Elementary Teachers)

  • Have done BA/B.Sc with minimum 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in D.EL.Ed/B.Ed

Note 1: The Diploma/Degree course of only National Council for Teacher’s Education (NCTE) will be considered. While in case of Diploma in Education/ Special Education and B.Ed, a course that is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) will be taken into consideration.

Note 2: In the above eligibility criteria, 5% relaxation is provided by the Government to SC/ST/OBC candidates, hence the minimum marks needed in senior secondary is 45% instead of 50%.

STET 2020 Exam Pattern

Candidates can check the exam pattern for STET 2020 exam:

Exam mode: The exam will be conducted in offline mode

Duration: The candidates are given two and a half hours to complete the test.

Language: The language of the paper will be bilingual, English and Hindi except the sections that are based on the concerned language subjects for test.

There will be no negative marking for the wrong answers and all questions are compulsory. The candidate who will score 60% or above marks in the examination is going to get the certificate.

STET 2020 Syllabus

The syllabus of STET 2020 contains various subjects like Child Development & Pedagogy, Mathematics, EVS, Languages and Social Science.

The subject Child Development & Pedagogy will contain questions on the development of the child both mentally and physically, child education psychology of teaching and learning.

Similarly, language section focuses on proficiency related to the medium of instructions and proficiency in that language. In the same way, other sections give emphasis on the understanding of the concerned topics related to that subject.

The EVS syllabus will have topics like food, shelter, air, water, kinds of pollution, environmental problems and various other related matters.

Mathematics will focus on problem solving abilities and questions. While the questions in social studies  will be related to the development in society, history, Geography, Economics, Indian Constitution, Health and Hygiene, Welfare, Sports, Literature, etc. The level of Paper – I will not be much difficult.

In Paper- II, the candidates can choose between Mathematics and Science or Social Studies. Candidates can also refer to the books of the respective classes for which they are giving the test so that they can have better understanding of the subjects.

STET 2020 Selection Process

The certificate awarded to the candidates is just one of the eligibility which will lead to their appointment in Government or Private Schools.

There is no such selection process in STET as the selection is based upon the personal interviews taken by the schools in which the candidate will apply. It may also depend on other stages too according to that particular school.

The STET only make sure that the person is eligible to become a teacher. It does not give the candidate any right to be appointed in the schools. A certificate provided after qualifying the test is enough to be ensured about the knowledge of the candidate in the subjects mentioned in the scorecard.

STET 2020 Admit Card

The admit card of STET 2020 is available online in the official website. Candidates have to download the admit card by entering their registration number and password provided at the time of online application.

In case any discrepancy is noticed by the candidate regarding their personal details or center, he or she may immediately contact the exam cell for the correction before a prescribed date as no request will be considered after that date.

All the candidates are advised to read and understand the instructions on the admit card and follow them. The mandatory documents and proof that is required to bring along with the admit card is also mentioned in the admit card only.

The admit card contains all the necessary details like the Center name, Center Address, Roll number, etc.

No candidate is allowed to enter the examination center unless he/she produce the admit card. The admit card is generally available one week before the exams.

STET 2020 Cut-off marks

STET 2020 Cut-off marks are also released by the board after the declaration of the result. The result is announced by the council through its official website.

The STET cut-off marks are the minimum marks required to get qualified in the exam.

The category wise cut-off marks might be provided in the official website of STET and candidates can check it in detail by entering the required details.

The cut-off for a particular examination depends upon the number of candidates appearing, difficulty level of the exam, number of seats available, etc.

For now, we can just provide you last year cut-off list and with that you can get an idea about the performance of the candidates applying for different Levels. The candidates are required to acquire the minimum marks to get qualified in the examinations. The expected cut-off list based on the assumptions by taking previous year results in view:

STET 2020 Result

A merit list is released by the board in its official site and the candidates who are declared qualified are awarded a certificate by the State Council of Examination.  The STET 2020 result is generally released in the month of September.

A separate certificate is given by the board to those candidates who appeared and qualified more than one level.

Students can check their result by logging in to the official website. The result is displayed on the screen when the students fill in the required details like application id, roll number, etc. & click on submit button.

The answer key is also made available on the site few days before the announcement of the result. The statement of the marks is available by the board in the official website and candidates can check the result there only by entering their registration number.

Mere qualifying in STET does not give any right of appointment to the candidate. The appointment depends upon the appointing authorities or the schools conducting the interview.

Candidates can give the test more than once for improvement or getting qualified, there is no limit to it.
