CDS 2020 (Combined Defence Services) examination is conducted every year by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). This is a national level exam which is organized twice every year as – UPSC CDS I & UPSC CDS II.

Through this exam, various eligible candidates are recruited in various posts of Indian Military Academy, Indian Air Force Academy, Officer Training Academy & Indian Naval Academy. CDS I exam will be held on 2nd February, 2020 and CDS II exam will be held on 8th November, 2020.

CDS 2020 Notification

CDS I 2020 notification will be released on 30th October, 2019 and CDS II notification will be released on 5th August, 2020. CDS 2020 Registration

CDS 2020 registration Form for Session I will be released on 30th October 2019 and for Session II on 5th August 2020. Applicants must make sure to check eligibility before filling the application form.

Last date to apply for session I is on 19th November, 2019 and Session II is on 25th August, 2020.

Application Fee:

  • Applicants are required to pay Rs. 200 as application fee.
  • ST/SC and all female candidates are exempted to pay fee.

Payment Mode:

Application fee can be paid online (Net banking/Debit card/Credit card) or offline (through depositing cash in any Branch of SBI).

UPSC CDS Eligibility Criteria & Qualification

Check CDS exam eligibility below before applying:

  • Nationality
    • Applicants should be an Indian citizen or subject of Bhutan/Nepal or Tibetan refugee.
    • Tibetan Refugee should have been migrated to India before 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement in India.
    • Candidates of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zaire, Zambia & Vietnam for permanent settlement in India are also eligible.
  • Age Criteria
    Candidates can check below the age criteria for various posts:

    • For Indian Military Academy: Applicant must not be born earlier than July 2nd, 1996 and not later than July 1st, 2001.
    • Indian Naval Academy: Applicant must not be born earlier than July 2nd, 1996 and not later than July 1st, 2001.
    • For Indian Air Force Academy: Applicant age should be between 20 to 24 years as on July 1st, 2020.
    • Officers Training Academy: Applicant must not be born earlier than July 2nd, 1995 and not later than July 1st, 2001.
    • Officers Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course): Applicant must not be born earlier than July 2nd, 1995 and not later than July 1st, 2001.
  • Gender & Marital Status
    • For Military, Navy & Air Force: Only unmarried males are eligible to apply.
    • For OTA (SSC course for men): Married & Unmarried males are eligible to apply.
    • For OTA (Women Non – Technical course): Only Females who are Unmarried/Widows (not remarried)/Divorcees are eligible to apply.
  • Educational Qualifications
    • For Indian Naval Academy: Candidate must possess Engineering Degree from a recognized University.
    • For Indian Military Academy: Candidate must be a Graduate from a recognized University.
    • For Indian Air Force Academy: Candidate must possess Engineering Degree or B.Tech with Physics & Mathematics subjects at 10+2 level from a recognized University.
    • For OTA: Candidate must be a Graduate from a recognized University.
  • Physical Standards

Applying candidates must be physically and mentally fit as per the physical standards mentioned by the officials.

CDS Exam Pattern

Check CDS 2020 Exam pattern below for Navy, Military, Air Force & OTA:

Candidates have to qualify two stages –

  • Written Test
  • Intelligence & Personality Test Interview

For Navy, Military & Air Force Written Test:

  • Exam mode: The exam will be in offline (Pen & paper mode).
  • of questions: There will be 120 questions each in English & GK and 100 questions in Elementary Mathematics.
  • Paper Language: Paper will be in English as well as in Hindi.
  • Type of Questions: There will be objective type of questions.
  • No. of papers: There will be 3 papers – English, GK & Elementary mathematics.
  • Marks: Each paper will be of 100 marks.
  • Time Duration: For each paper, 2 hours will be given.
  • Marking: +1 for each correct answer and -0.33 for each incorrect answer.

CDS Syllabus

UPSC CDS 2020 Syllabus will contain various topics from GK, English and Mathematics. Students must check syllabus and then prepare for the exam. For Mathematics, the paper will contain questions of matriculation level while for other subjects the standard will be of graduation level.

CDS 2020 Recruitment process

To get selected in UPS CDS 2020, candidates are required to successfully qualify the below four stages:

  1. Written Test
  2. Interview Round or SSB Test
  3. Document Verification round
  4. Medical Examination

Note: Only those candidates will proceed for 3rd stage & 4th stage (document verification & medical examination) who will successfully qualify the written test (1st stage) and Interview (2nd stage) and will be selected in the merit list.

CDS 2020 Admit Card

CDS 2020 Admit Card for Session I will be available in the month of January 2020 and for Session II during August 2020. Successfully registered candidates have to enter their login details to get admit card.

Students can download admit card only by online mode. No admit card will be provided through post. Candidates must note that it is mandatory to carry admit card on the exam day.

CDS 2020 Cut Off

CDS 2020 Cut off will be released online with the declaration of results. To qualify the exam, candidates must attain cut off marks as per their categories.

As per the last year’s trends, candidates must score 90 – 130 in the written test to get selected.

CDS 2020 Result

Result of CDS 2020 Session I will be announced in the month of March 2020 and for session II in the month of October 2020. Candidates can check result online.

To check CDS result, students have to enter their login credentials – Registration number and DOB.

CDS 2020 SSB Interview

After candidates will successfully clear the CDS 2020 written test, they will be considered eligible for SSB interview round.

In SSB interview round, students will go through Officer Intelligence Rating and Picture Perception & Description Test, Psychology Test, Interview, Group Testing Officer Task and Conference.

After clearing SSB interview, candidates have to clear document verification round and medical examination after which they will be successfully recruited for various posts.
