CISCE Board: Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination

Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) is a well known national level private board of school education in India. The board conducts ICSE (Class 10th) & ISC (Class 12th) board examination every year in the month of February and March.

The CISCE council was formed on 3rd November 1958. The CISCE headquarters is located in New Delhi, India.

The main purpose of its establishment was to replace the overseas Cambridge School Certificate Examination with All India Examination.

Roles and Functions

The main function of CISCE council is to empower students to contribute towards the humane society and to provide high quality education.

The council does not monitor the schools much and gives freedom to new ideas and innovations.

Their commitment is towards excellence and interesting learning opportunities.

Other functions include: 

  • To bring reforms in educational practices and strong root in the national psyche.
  • To encourage schools to motivate pupils towards the cultivation of cultural and ethical values.
  • To affiliate institutions for the purpose of examinations.
  • To encourage schools to document the progress of students.
  • To cater to the needs of the children.
  • To conduct examination at the end of Class X and Class XII.

Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination

CISCE board conducts ICSE (Indian Certificate for Secondary Examination) and ISC (Indian School Certificate) examinations.

The ICSE exams are conducted for Class X while the ISC exams are conducted for Class XII.

The CISCE council was established so that a board can be formed that will administer the examinations conducted by the University of Cambridge in India. The board has affiliated more than 2100 schools in India.

CISCE Syllabus

The CISCE council prescribe syllabus for ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII).

An academic curriculum is also provided by CISCE council according to which the marks of the students are also decided by their performance in class.

The syllabi for the examinations are varied time to time to aim at providing the updated knowledge to the pupils.

CISCE 10th and 12th Class Date Sheet

The exam date, date sheet and timing of the exam are released by CISCE every year before the exams in their site which proves to be very helpful for the students.

Generally, the Council releases the date sheet of Class 10th and Class 12th in the month of December.

CISCE 10th and 12th Result

The results of ICSE (Class 10th) examination and ISC (Class 12th) examinations are released in the month of May, both in different dates.

The promotion criteria of CISCE board are to achieve minimum 33% marks in aggregate (it was 35% earlier).

According to the official website of CISCE, the total number of students that appeared for the ICSE examinations in the year 2019 were 1,96,271, while  for ISC were 86,713.

The overall passing percentage of ICSE for the year was 98.54% and of ISC was 96.52%

The passing percentage of the students from ICSE and ISC board has always been commendable (from 90% to 98% every year).
